Honor’s Reflection Paper
At first, I had no idea as to whom I wanted to interview for this assignment; I contacted all sorts of UC Davis faculty from the departments of my interest, such as, the Veterinary, Marine Science, Animal Biology and Science Departments, but no-one from these departments seemed to be interested in becoming my interviewees. Although my faculty research was quite extensive, I knew that I wanted to meet up with someone that deals with Animals. Just before I started to lose the ambition to sit down and interview a faculty member, I got contacted back from Dr. Esteban Soto. Dr. Soto is an Associate Professor of Aquatic Animal Health in the Medicine & Epidemiology School of Veterinary Medicine Department. Initially, I was

Soto, my cognition of the entire interview changed to a large degree. We sat down and started talking about how he came to be and what took him to get where he is now. Dr. Soto really opened my mind and gave me a whole new set of ideas as to what I can do for my future. The interview was very informal, and it, then, started to feel like a conversation between two people. He explained, in a brief manner, the research that he conducts and the resources he has gained from conducting such resources. It turns out that Dr. Soto is interested more in research than he is in Veterinary; therefore, this made me more enthusiastic about the interview. Since I am still puzzled by the fact of whether or not I want to continue my education as a Researcher or a Veterinarian, Dr. Soto’s research topic really caught my attention; I, honestly, thought that this interview was going to be mostly about operating on animals and the normal/everyday life of a Veterinarian. Dr. Soto gave me really great advice as to what alternatives I can choose to take, such as getting my two-year Master’s Degree before even applying to Veterinary School; this way, I don’t waste any time in Veterinary School, and I get a feeling of what research is like,

I worked in the biology lab labeling pelts, bones, and animal specimens; by twenty-one, I obtained my bachelor’s degree and strived for my first job out of university. That summer, I joined Humane Society Naples and worked as a veterinary assistant, while also volunteering at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in wildlife rehabilitation. This is my turning point and reminds me of Claudia at age seven, who wanted to save animals. The most vivid and unforgettable part of my time there was seeing the transformation of the animal’s health and behavior. From the time, they come into the shelter, scared and sometimes in pain, to then being apart of the team to medically assess and treat them, to witness their ability to play with other animals, and then to the joys of adopters coming in looking for their forever pet, is…

During this semester I personally contributed to my overall success in the PTAP 2310 class by studying consistently and coming prepared to class. I found that having previously read the chapter and notes, I was able to further understand what Dr. Amite was teaching. This also proved to be beneficial if I had trouble understanding a portion of the chapter I could come with questions. I entered this class knowing that my performance and understanding of the information relied heavily on my entrance into the PTA program. Becoming a PTA is so important to me that it kept me driven to have a complete understanding of the material, even when it was most difficult.…

Nearly 15 years ago, I was in the first grade being asked to draw the person I imagined myself to be when I grew up. My picture portrayed me and several different types of animals at a veterinary clinic with the explanation stating, “When I grow up, I want to be a vet because I want to help animals.” I grew up an only-child and was devoted to all types of animals as if they were part of my family. For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a vet. As a child, I would pretend to do surgery by stitching together holes in my stuffed animals.…

Honor codes are a set of principles in a school made to follow, to uphold an honest school environment, which can determine the integrity of a student. It is a controversial topic among students and teachers because of the student opposition of obeying rules. Honor codes should be established and maintained in a school because of the positive shift of student learning environment, student intellectual improvement, and peer relationship progression. Schools who establish an honor code that is peer lead and continuously monitored can lead to the reduction of cheating. When no cheating is strictly established, students are lead to having to do their own work and study because dependence on their friends is broken.…

One of the most important thing I have learned in this course that has positively affected my confidence in my writing skills is the concept of writing a “shitty first draft”. In my midterm self-assessment, I discussed how I thought I was among one of the unlucky ones that was not blessed with natural writing skills. However, through class discussions, I’ve learned that one of the most important competent of professional writing is the need for constant revision. Contrary to popular believe, writing does not come easy to anyone. In order to successfully produce professional writing, it is important that one plan, draft, revise, and edit his or her work.…

Before I came to Kisling Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (NCOA), I thought of myself as a good leader with certain traits and aspects. I believe that if I take care of my airmen, that they’ll take care of me by completing work orders, squadron objectives, or any future events without question. It wasn’t until I attended NCOA, that I was able to put concept names to the leadership traits that I had. For example, I would put aside my self-interest for the good of the work center because I wanted my guys to know that I have their best interest at heart. Which turns out to be part of transformational leader idealized influence.…

Reflection When signing up to take the Final Project Course this fall I was extremely nervous and not excited to start. Walking into the first day of class and learning more about what the final project would entail, I did feel slightly better but still scared that it was going to be too overwhelming and hard to complete by myself. Luckily, the individual meetings and emails with my professor made everything much more clear and inviting. These final project meetings were very helpful in terms of receiving constructive criticism and then going back home to make changes to the paper.…
