The unique structure of the opera house is based off of the sails of ships, because the design is built on the right alongside of the harbor. The design has little to do with the opera within but more to do with the surrounding area. Metaphoric architecture is taken one step further in the postmodern movement and architects utilize aspects of other designs into their work.
