Interest groups and the Lobbyist The government plays a significant role in making laws in favor of the people and their welfare but there are times when a particular group of people and race are not part of it. In such case, interest groups play a decisive role to bring those voices forward. Even though, it sounds nice that interest groups help the people who are not getting the benefit of the law, money plays a key role in real world. While the corporate businesses are spending millions and billions of dollars on influencing the lawmakers and buying lobbyist, the voices of those people are not even in the picture. I believe that it’s not fair to the …show more content…
Policies favor the wealthy, interest groups, study shows” by Sara Bondioli on The Huffington Post, “U.S. government policies favor the desires of wealthy and interest groups more than average citizen whereas, ordinary citizen has little or no influence on policy making at all.” In the democracy, every individual has the right to speech and freedom, so interest groups are important so that people could raise their voice to be heard while making the laws where money shouldn’t be an issue in my view. I believe the legislature should make laws which gives priority to an interest group with people rather than businesses if demands of people and businesses contradict in any way. For an instance, insurance companies make a lot of money from people who pay every month so that they can get help when they are in trouble whether that is health issues, auto-insurance, home insurance, etc. but people are struggling to get help and pay when they get in trouble. Texas Medical Association (TMA) is one of the interest group that is currently pushing bills to tackle such problems for public health issues in the state of Texas. The legislation of Texas should give priority to such bills rather than pushing for bills to open carry hand guns (HB 910), license to carry guns in colleges and universities. I believe the bills that Texas state of rifle association(TSRA) is pushing is futile for the moment because license to carry guns will promote the business of guns when people needs to fulfill their basic needs of health, education and food. There is no second thought that such practice will bring more violence rather than peace because people will not buy guns when they need to pay for education, food, insurances and so on. Again, only the wealthy people and the people with motive to kill someone is more likely to
