Hero's Journey In The Great Gatsby And The Matrix

To begin, a definition of a hero's journey is the common template of a broad category of tales that involve a hero who goes on an adventure, and in a decisive crisis wins a victory, and then comes home changed or transformed. The Great Gatsby is about a young man who fell in love with a girl named Daisy, but he was sent off into war so was lost from his long love and then years later he reunites with her and tries to get her love back when she's married to another man. The Matrix is about a man named Neo and was messaged by the Matrix that he will be a Matrix, later on he met a friend named Morphias and he was Neo’s father basically but eventually Morphias gets caught by the Matrix. Additionally, I believe in both stories there contains a hero that follows a hero's journey circle and those heroes are Gatsby in “The Great Gatsby” and Neo in “The Matrix”. My reasons behind Gatsby being a hero are: Fills in the Steps, Main Character, Unforgettable, and Rich. My Reasons behind Matrix are: Fills the steps, Powers of matrix, Returns as chosen one, and Defeats agents.

Therefore, in The Great Gatsby, Gatsby's call to adventure was when he reunited with his long lost love, Daisy. In the Matrix, the hero, Neo’s call to adventure was a message he received on his computer screen saying “The Matrix has you”. For Gatsby, reuniting with daisy was his call to adventure because he was sent to war and had to leave her behind, while reuniting with her made him back in love instantly. To continue, Neo seeing the message from the matrix scared him and he started to leave until he met a friend named Morphias which started the call to
