Herbert Spencer. Social Darwinism is a spin off of the theory of natural selection which was created by Charles Darwin. Social Darwinism covers all aspects of life, including economics, political, and social issues. While Charles Darwin intended natural selection to be about survival of the fittest of things in nature, Herbert Spencer used Social Darwinism to also include survival of the fittest of people in developed societies. According to Social Darwinism, those with social strengths flourish and those without are destined for extinction.

The first policy passed by Hitler and the Nazi party was the prevention of hereditarily-diseased offspring, which happened in 1933. It required doctors in Germany to register all genetically related illnesses in their patients. Genetically related illnesses could include like schizophrenia, blindness, deafness, severe physical deformities, and mental retardation. Some doctors took this to an extreme with reporting people for things such as being an alcoholic even.
When a doctor reported someone, they were sent to a hereditary health court. Hereditary health courts were set up by Hitler to determine the outcome of each individual case and decided whether each patient would be left alone to live with their deformity or sentenced to surgical sterilisation so they could not procreate and pass on their deformity. Hereditary health courts . were comprised of two doctors and a lawyer. Very quickly, after the start of these hereditary health courts, hospitals were overwhelmed with long lists of people who were court ordered to be sterilised. In total, the Nazi hereditary health courts approved the forced sterilisation of more than 300,000 people between 1934 and 1945, about 90% of all the people who went in for court …show more content…
For one, Darwin never intended natural selection to be a part of civilization. He believed it didn’t apply to civilization because people had risen above the need of survival of the fittest with having medication and an ample supply of human necessity items.
