This week’s reading in Gunsmith Kinks was one that I believe could do a lot of good for someone new to shotgun choking. Before reading the words of V.M. Starr in our reading this week I had next to no knowledge about how to choke a shotgun. Mr. Starr went on to explain that “his first experience choking a shotgun was in an old blacksmith shop on the farm in Ohio where he was born”. He stated that he and his father “took a shot-out muzzle loading rifle and bored it to about 24 gauge and worked a choke into it”. I wouldn’t in a million years think to turn a shot-out rifle into a shotgun.
