There are many different causes of tunnel vision, some more serious than others. One way to cause tunnel vision is to damage the optic nerve. Any damage to the optic nerve, either through trauma or a disease, can possibly cause tunnel vision. Glaucoma is a fairly common eye disease that increases the pressure inside the eye which can damage the optic nerve. Damages to the peripheral areas on your retina can affect your peripheral vision. It is a condition called retinitis pigmentosa is known to cause tunnel vision by damaging the retina, but it is very rare.
