Anxiety Disorders are discussed in Chapter 14. Generalized Anxiety Disorder is something that I can relate to. I worry a lot and I worry about things I can’t control or already happened. This definition is very similar to what I have been experiencing for quite a while. I am not trying to diagnosis myself based on this definition.…
Yet one of the most common disorders is that of anxiety. Many will say that anxiety and worry is just a part of our human nature. To some extent that is true. As humans, we need some form of natural response to keep us out of dangerous situations. Yet for those who struggle with an anxiety disorder the response goes far beyond our natural humanistic response.…

1. Constricted [Generalized Anxiety Disorder] (2015) Pencil, charcoal, and ink on cardstock (size) Generalized anxiety disorder occurs when a person worries excessively over a large variety of different topics such as health, safety, relationships, and finance. The disorder has to be evident for 6 months and show evidence of triggers, which would require a record of anxiety (diary, therapist, etc.). Sometimes, the person may have anxiety from mood disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder, but it is not classified as generalized anxiety disorder when it is from any other disorders. Mood disorders can be very similar to GAD, but GAD can be mistaken for a phobia.…

Generalized anxiety disorder is exceedingly common in today’s society and it is especially present among adolescents. There are multiple means of treating anxiety, including medication and psychotherapy. Art therapy is a powerful tool that has become a more popular choice within the recent years when treating anxiety. Though the most well known methods of treatment for generalized anxiety disorder have been successful, how art therapy affects children with generalized anxiety disorder has the potential to become a more desired choice. Research Method I used five different sources for my I-Search paper.…
Generalized anxiety disorder is marked by excessive and unmanageable worry. It is believed to be maintained by cognitive (attention and judgment) biases toward threat-related stimuli and the use of worry (and associated tension) and overly careful behaviors as a means to avoid catastrophic images and associated autonomic arousal. CBT of generalized anxiety disorder involves cognitive therapy to address worry and cognitive biases and relaxation to address tension, as well as imaginal exposure to catastrophic images and displayed to stressful situations while response preventing overly cautious behaviors. The controlled effect size for CBT in generalized anxiety disorder was 0.51, indicating a medium effect although only two studies using a…
A 27-year-old electrician is describing symptoms that do not meet the full criteria for any of the disorders in the anxiety disorders diagnostic class of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed. ; DSM-5; American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013); therefore, a diagnosis of other specified anxiety disorder is appropriate. However, it should be noted that the symptoms described are highly characteristic of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and meet 5 out of the 6 criteria for GAD. More information or further development is needed to determine if the client has GAD. For one, the client claims that he has many worries—e.g., worries that involve the health of his parents and his social approval level at work.…
The future is the unknown, hence the uncontrollable. As anxiety is a future-oriented mood-state, many individuals may be nervous of not knowing what may or may not happen, causing worry and nervousness. Two prominent anxiety disorders that focus on the feeling of worry are generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), is the lack of control over of the worry process (Brown et al, 1994). When the concern over future events becomes severe and uncontrollable, it becomes maladaptive (Barlow, 2002).…
According to Anxiety and Depression Association of America [ADAA] (2014a), anxiety disorders affect millions of Americans, however only an estimated one third of the patients suffering from anxiety receive some form of treatment (2014a). A few of the reasons for these statistics are inaccurate representation in the media, misinformation on the importance of seeking treatment, or not being aware of the different treatment options. Any race, gender, or age range can be affected by anxiety. Therefore it is critical to remember anyone can be affected by anxiety (Goldberg, 2014). A small amount of anxiety or worry is normal in every person.…
Generalized Anxiety Disorder Driving into work on what started as a routine morning, my chest began to feel very heavy and I was overcome with a sense of anxiousness and unexplainable doom. Within moments I began to feel dizzy and lightheaded, unsure of what was happening I pulled my car into a parking lot and tried to collect myself. I was shaking, experiencing heart palpitations and felt a feeling of complete loss of focus and control. I had never felt anything like this before and panic began to consume my thoughts. The symptoms lasted for approximately 20 minutes and subsided as quickly and inexplicably as they had come.…

Over the years I have experienced both severe anxiety and depression. When I found my self in the middle of an anxiety attack I always tried to get away from everyone and just close my eyes to imagine my safe place, the place where my anxiety and depression did not suffocate me. This place I envisioned for myself is the same place I still find myself going back to in my mind, even today for example when I learned one of my classes might prevent me from going to pharmacy school in the fall. My special place is on the Coney Island beach under the pier. Usually when I take myself to this place, it isnt the dirty, moldy beach that we see when we go to Coney Island but it is absolutely beautiful.…
