The Gospel of Matthew is written for Jews who were under the oppression of the Romans. In this Gospel, Matthew introduced them the Jewish to the king of the Jews, Jesus. He made an argument that Jesus is the Messiah, son of God. Follow the argument is a series of prove base on real events that happened to Jesus. First, when Matthew said: “This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: … and Marry was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah” (Matthew 1: 1-16) Not only that, he presented the genealogy to justify for the above arguments since both Mary and Joseph were descended from David. Indeed, Jesus is God because when a man or a woman dies, there is nothing left to it. Death was the last thing that happens to that person. However, it was different for Jesus because he was not a normal human being but God. When he died, “the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom … went into the holy city and appeared to many people” (Matthew 27:51). Thus, the curtain in the temple was used to prevent people to enter the most holy place in the temple. The curtain broke at the time of Jesus’s death signified the removal of the barrier between God and sinful man and that God welcome everyone to come before him. Three days after Jesus’s burial, as himself said, Jesus rise again however people did not know this until they visit his grave. “There was a violent earthquake , for an Angel of the lord came down from heaven, … his appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow” (Matthew 28: 2) . The purpose of rolling the stone was not for Jesus to escape the tomb but rather to show people that the he was not there anymore, the tomb was emptied.
