It is common noticing that boys have more leniencies when it comes to how they are treated by their parents. Most girls are often more protected and aren’t allowed as much freedom as boys. Gender differences do exist with family behaviors as well as influencing some parenting styles. There are factors that may give parents the feeling to have gender double standards such as the possibility of their daughter becomes pregnant may be the root of double standards as well as sexuality. Parental double standards concerning their children’s relationship may vary by the temperament of the relationship. There are numerous factors that affect the attitudes towards courtship and family inception. These factors may include religion, parenthood, age, marital status, and education are crucial to why parents form perspective and double standards based upon their child’s gender. Parenting positions are influenced solely by the gender of their child especially when it pertains to relationships and family formation. Sons seem to be granted more freedom when it comes to dating and engaging in certain relational behaviors. Researchers Axinn, Young-DeMarco, and Caponi Ro (2012) included “we find that respondents’ attitudes towards courtship behavior dating, sex, cohabitation and the timing of marriage differ significantly by the sex of the child.
