Gender Differences In Social Work

Based on the way I was raised, chores were divided among all six residents of the house. In all honesty, the chores were divided in an almost gender assigned way. I was in charge of washing dishes and cleaning the table while my older sister dealt with sweeping and mopping of the house. My eldest sister did laundry and cleaned the stove and occasionally helped with outside chores such as raking leaves as my brother mowed the lawn. Chores were done once a week and took at most than three hours, depending on the how messy we were that week. When we were younger my mother was the only person in the kitchen as we grew older the task of cooking was of anyone that could and was less tired since my parent were farm/migrant workers and got home very tired. Some chores were done together as a family such as washing cars and grocery shopping. Other chores like unclogging sinks, and changing light bulbs were done by the person closest at the time it occurred. …show more content…
This is because my mom prioritized us, her children, but she also worked. She worked in the fields with my father and at those times they were both equals as they worked harvesting onion and peppers in the same conditions and got paid the same rates. My mother always told my siblings, and I, that education was important since it was a gateway to independence but she always warned my sisters, and I, to not let work get in the way of motherhood.
