Gang problem has been a persistent concern for the government and the general public of Long Island. Not only do these gangs cause havoc and crimes in the cities, but also make the communities to live in fear and terror as they are never sure when the gangs will strike. The unfolding events leading to increased crime rates in the area have forced the government to intervene by introducing laws that will curb down such criminal activities (Ronald, 2007). Dissociation, isolation and separation in correctional centers are among the treatment policies that have been halfway implemented by the government.
Separation and Isolation
Among the strategies being implemented to bring down rates of gang activities in the island is separation and isolation. The policy, in some instances, will help reduce inter-gang wars and violence that results as a result of clashes among gang groups (Placido et.al, 2006). To successfully counter this predicament, law enforcement and community policing activities need to closely work together. This way, not only will the government eliminate gangs in the society, but also criminal activities associate with gangs such as muggings, robbery, homicide, and drug trafficking.
