According to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism “Frontex is arguably more show than substance-a microcosm of everything that hampering a pan-European response to the current crisis” . The European Commission quickly blame Frontex inability to its limitations. That “the limitations of the current EU border agency, Frontex, have hindered its ability to effectively address and remedy the situation created by the refugee crisis.” According to President Jean-Claude Juncker in his speech on the State of the Union 2015 “A united refugee and asylum policy requires stronger joint efforts to secure our external borders. Fortunately, we have given up borders controls between the Member States of the Schengen area, to guarantee free movement of people, a unique symbol of European integration. But the other side of the coin to free movement is that we must work together more closely to manage our external borders. This is what our citizens expect. Migrants could be identified as group of people who voluntarily and consciously choose to leave their country to seek for a better life somewhere. Whereas the dictionary meaning of refugee is attach to ‘refuge’, meaning person who has been forced to flee from danger hence are forced to leave their country for the reasons defined by the 1951 refugee convention. According to Adrian Edwards , countries deal with migrants under their own immigration laws and processes whereas countries must deal with refugees through the norms of national legislation and international refugee protection law. The current migration crisis is characterised by mixed flows of mostly the people that fleeing the war-torn countries and the economic migrants, it is however unfortunate that the most popular label adopted by the media for this crisis is ‘migrant’ crisis. We could argue that the classification of the crisis as ‘migrant’ crisis is a deliberate measure to restrict the kind of provision that could be available to them hence creates the chaos in those screening centres as to determine who is in and who is out. If Europe should acknowledge the facts that these people are ‘Refugees’ they would have been obliged to certain level of protection and it would have made the ongoing screening process easier.
