Art has always been an expression of the emotion of mankind. Artwork gives us the viewer genuine insight of what it was like for people throughout history. One of the most influential pieces that were made during the late medieval period was the piece created by Ambrogio Lorenzetti. Three different fresco pieces that were created but are all tied into one thought and idea. These three fresco pieces included Allegory of Good Government, The Effects of Bad Government, and The Effects of Good Government. These original frescos represent the tremendous effect the government can have on society either good or bad. This piece stood out to me because its significance and influence it had on the leaders of Sienna.
First, the masterpiece is located at the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena, Italy. Sienna amassed a tremendous amount of wealth as a city-state, and the government officials had a considerable amount of influence. The three frescos effectively cover three out of four walls that are in the Council room. The council room is where the nine leaders of the government would hold their meetings. The reason for the painting occupying the council room was that the leaders would be able to observe these painting and see the direct effects of what their decisions would have on the people of Sienna. What is intriguing about the history of the piece is that the patronage that was given from “the cathedral and a government group”
