The rules of basketball may seem complex and long, but they are valuable to the game and keeps the game with a nice flow and pace. To begin, fouling is an important part of the game, that keeps it in check. The first type of foul is called a common foul that can be pushing, shoving, or grabbing. If a player gets six common fouls then thy would be ejected and if a team gets six fouls throughout each quarter then the opposing team gets one and one. One and one is where the other team shoots a free throw that if made they get to should another, but if the second free throw is also made the opposing team does not get another. During these free throws players cannot cross the line in front of them until the ball is shot except the shooter. The shooter has to wait until the …show more content…
In addition, there are also offensive rules in the game of basketball. One offensive rule is that a player may only stand three seconds in the key otherwise the ball is given to the other team. Also, every time the ball is being passed in the player has five seconds to inbound the ball. To add to that the player must not step over the sideline or baseline until ball is passed in, but the player can run across the baseline if it is after a made shot. After the ball is inbounded then the player has eight seconds to pass the halfcourt line and the team has a total of twenty four seconds to shoot the ball. For points, if the ball is shot beyond the arch (no feet on the line) it is worth three points, if inside the arch then two points, and if it is a free throw it is one point. The last and most important rule of offense is the ball handler cannot walk without dribbling when he or she has the ball. To be more specific the ball handler has two steps after dribbling the ball and one step without dribbling the ball.
