Robert Neus Analysis Robert Neus a US Consular and the Diplomat in Residence for the Midwest, who’s taken various tours worldwide, emphasized a few things when speaking to our Political Science 281 United States Foreign Policy class. Some of the thing he emphasized were diversity in regards to the people that the state department employs to represent the United States abroad, involvement in political and social issues overseas despite popular demand to be reclusive and the reach of the US State department when dealing with different bureaus under their control.
One of the biggest things people are concerned about in the United States today is security, we have threats all around the planet from the Middle East to North Korea the US is one of the most highly targeted countries in the world. Robert Neus said “The World can be a big scary place, but we can’t seal ourselves off we are global world.” This is one of the biggest things Americans need to keep in mind especially in this day and age. Many United States Presidential candidates run on the policy of shutting ourselves off and making the world deal with their own issues. However, our nation being such a leader in the international realm cannot do that without major detrimental repercussions worldwide. Since the establishment of the United States as world superpower we have been also become a de facto superhero for the world, starting as early as and even before World War 1 the United States has been giving supplies troops and even American lives for conflicts overseas. Without the United States, Germany may very well have been in major control of Europe, Dictators like Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi may still be in power and communism could have been widespread throughout East Asia. The United States’ involvement in the conflicts worldwide has been nationally unpopular since the United States began doing so, from the American people’s perspective the United States was giving its supplies, troops and citizens lives for a unimportant reason not involving its own interests. However this rational is unreasonable. The amount of innocent lives we have saved and unjust actions we have stopped is proof that the US needs to be involved. Although many Americans can beg the question why should we care about other peoples well being besides ours? we cannot begin to think in that way. The main reason for the establishment of a nation is to have a organized and civilized government and not to have the world in anarchy. The rational of thinking that America should only care for Americans well being is the same type rational that ISIS and dictators like Adolf Hitler had when carrying out terror attacks on people of different ethnicities. He expressed the need for the United States to continue to be involved in the world’s issues even if they don’t directly affect our citizens. The reasoning for this point is that we must implement our influence worldwide or major negative repercussions will take place as has happened in the past. Further we must be concerned for the safety and lives of others as a democratic nation and to be respected as a world superpower. The second point, which is essential, was the diversity in the State Department. This point is extremely key because the representation of the United States interests must entail a fair representation of every one of our citizens. Further in order to be respected as a player on the international scale we must be represented by diverse respected individuals from all walks of life making the United States interests known. Lastly the speaker touched on the vast reach of the State Department worldwide. This can be seen with the various programs employed in the State Department. As well as for basic procedure our State Department has created a large program base with includes aid, outreach and cultural awareness both domestically and abroad. With these programs the United States has saved many youth from crime, hunger and homelessness as well as with healthcare and after natural disaster. With these key components and more our State Department successfully makes us a well respected international superpower, which needs to be taken legitimately by every other country on the planet. With this respect we are now the presiding leader of the
