A firearm is like an instant delete button, one moment you’re alive, the next you’re gone; criminalizing fire arms will make killing someone much harder. It removes the freedom from a person to easily end one’s life, thus making homicides more difficult to commit. Statistics have shown in 2010 there were 31 513 deaths caused by fire arms across the United States, 11 015 being homicides (Utah.edu). As u can imagine, 11 015 is no small number, let alone that they’re lives of people. 11 015 is very close to the amount of people the Air Canada Center can hold, that is the amount of people that perished due to homicides. As a result, the US has one of the highest homicide rates in all developed countries, only exceeded by Mexico (Business Insider). In response to these statistics President Obama says, "Once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun," (Obama). The United States of America is the leading manufacture of firearms in the world, producing over 10 million guns of all sorts every year (Shooting industry). Canada does not produce nearly as many firearms as the US. However, we share one of the longest and most unprotected borders in the world, this makes smuggling weapons into Canada much easier. Making firearms more accessible. The legality of firearms is like a virus that continuously spreads, and doesn’t stop until everything is infected. Dealers smuggle weapons over border all time, giving all countries accessibility to firearms. Therefore a global criminalization of fire arms is in need. Over the course of the years Canada has been loosening gun restriction laws. For example, in 1995 Canada instated a Firearms act which required a license and registry of all long guns (rifles, shotguns and etc.). But, in 2012 the Canadian government ruled that registration of firearms would no longer be required, this means that firearms cannot be tracked; the government is blind like a bat, unable to get a good depiction of the issue of firearms.
