Love is a feeling that we all define and express differently. Love is not an item and cannot be quantified. It is in the form of an emotion, a feeling, a state of mind, or a mental process. Wrongly so, it is sometimes thought as a feeling of the heart. We do know that the heart is just an organ that has a sole function of pumping blood, and cannot experience emotion. Regardless of this, people all around the world always describe love as the matters of the heart. Some people’s definition of love may be merely romantic or sexual, and others’ may be as an unconditional connection that can only truly be real between members of the family. Love may be termed as a liking or attachment to a person, pet, object, or deity. The love in this particular paper is between individuals and not between a person and inanimate things.
To me, love between individuals can be broken down into three main categories: romantic/intimate love, friendly love, and family love. Friendly love between male friends may be different than the love between female friends, and it may be different between male-female friends than the former two. This type of love can often turn into romantic/intimate love. Other friends and family at times encourage and at times even pressure a pair, especially a male and female pair, in turning their friendly love into romantic love. Even though friendly love can turn into romantic/intimate love, most times it ends up making things very complicated. If things don’t work out, it becomes very difficult to go back to just friendship. In most instances, the strong bond of friendship falls apart.
