Clarisse McClellan: A beautiful 17 year- old girl, and who happens to be Montag new neighbor. She is known for her odd habits, which include hiking, playing with flowers, and asking questions.

Curious: Determined to learn new things about the society “Why do you find burning books is fun?”
Knowledgeable: Is aware of her society in ways other people her age might not know. “ Is it true that long ago firemen put out fires instead of starting them”

She and her family don’t agree with the law. They worked against the school system. They struggle to their message to society. Clarisse also seems to influence Montag that books aren’t supposed to be burned; instead they’re used to gain knowledge. Clearly, Clarisse is a great example of someone who stands up for what she believes in and what seems right.
Censorship: According to the law owning books are illegal. Through the use of a metaphor, a fire hose in the shape of a python destroys books. Bradbury had clearly made readers understand that the society that Montag is a dystopian society. The society is a dystopian rather than utopia because the society often feels trapped and is struggling to escape. For example, the society doesn’t have the right to gain knowledge by reading books; instead they have to burn the books. LITERARY DEVICES
