The Kansas-Nebraska act caused a lot of controversy and it is the blame of the split of the whig party. This was a law passed by congress and states were required to follow it. The south did not have an issue with the law because their industry depended on it. The North did not agree with the law. This law was not always fair. A white man could suspect that a black man was a slave without even knowing anything about the situation. Slaves were not allowed to have a fair trial. Those who sided with the person who found the slave would be paid more than a person who sided with the slaves.
