One reason I think that their should not be longer school years is to have children do things outside of school. Also the shorter the school year will be the more they have to learn and study. Therefore, I believe that the more time kids spend in school the less time they'll have outside of school.

In a year-round school, it may be hard to maintain a job or travel with family in the one month of summer that the school gives students as their summer break. Laura Kelsey, author of “Should You Give Up Summer Vacation” claims, “year-round schools have roughly the same number of vacation days as traditional school calendars” (Kelsey 28). The traditional school calendar gives students 3 months of summer vacation, allowing students and teachers a much needed break. Some would argue that those summer months are the downfall to losing some of the material taught in the previous year of school. However, Kelsey also states, “Learning doesn’t have to stop for kids on long summer breaks.…

With all the work to be done and keeping up one's grades, there is so much to worry about. Some students might feel this longer break is a good way for them to get away from all the stress school causes. Students could retain information from year round school, however all that learning makes it harder on the student so the longer break would be more beneficial. Students also have more time to start going into the real world. Students tend to get jobs during the summer rather than school because of time.…

Year-round schooling breaks give both the students and teachers to have some time of relaxation because of their long and balanced schedule. “Short breaks are always replenishing and students as well as the teachers can resume their schedules with renewed vigor, a fresher mind and great zeal.” (Year-Round School Advantages and Disadvantages). Regular school breaks stimulates a person to remain focused. Luke Towler claims that the extended time off allows both the teachers and students to not feel drained from school.…

Another study states “students requiring academic support don't have to wait to go to summer school to get help. Instead, they can attend remedial classes early in the year to catch and fix problems quicker.”(pbs.org,2001). Without the long summer break, kids need less time to catch up and relearn so they can learn more and the entire school year. All in all year-round school improves student learning without burnout.…

Imagine having shorter school periods, more opportunities to go on vacation throughout the year, and still going to school the same amount of days you would during a school year with a 2-3 month vacation. With year-round school, it makes this dream possible. There is a debate on whether students should attend school year-round or stick to going to school with a long 2-3 month vacation in between school years. School boards should make the switch to year-round because year-round schooling can help with improving test scores, fixing the problem of overcrowded classrooms, and helping students stay engaged at school. Students should have year-round school because it can help improve test scores.…

The facts tell us that it’s hurting us more than helping us. Breaking tradition of summer break with year round school can cause students to get bored with work and stressed. In addition, “due to the knowledge restrained rather than lost, scores on ACT testing for those students in school who participate in year-round schooling increases by about 2.34 points in math and 1.61 points in reading (Fye).” This explains how there is a big benefit in education from year round school because of how kids don’t lose what they learned during very long breaks and instead become better educated and get better grades. Studies prove…

Children benefit from year round school because they are not in a hurry to cram everything they need to know for that year in just short nine to ten months. Teachers can slow their speed and actually teach students everything they need to know not just what they need for a test, which seems to be regular in many schools. Students will not forget the education that was taught, for they will not have summer vacation time to forget about school and what they learned from it. Cooper had done experiments on children loosing education while on summer break and his results are stunning, and cooper commented that “most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months”…

School systems have always encountered trouble deciding whether or not to use a year-round education program. There have been studies on the effectiveness on this teaching schedule and most of the results are positive. Other investigations show that teachers themselves enjoy this schedule of learning since it allows them to interact with their students on a more continuous basis, and there is not a gap in curriculum due to summer break. However, students will still have time to rest and relax on the shorter breaks scattered throughout the year. One such study by Ballinger (1987) agrees that “students learn best by a continuous pattern of teaching, practice, reteaching, and more practice, until they finally grasp the concepts being taught”…

The amount of long years in school is bad for kids it is enough. When it’s summer break children need time during the summer to enjoy life experiences and young children who need to spend long periods each year play outdoors in the warm weather. Students who want to bump up their marks in their courses wouldn't have summer school to bump up their grades. A study that was conducted proves that summer school does in fact help students academically and socially and also reduces the rate of high schoolers dropping out of highschool. Without having summer school many students who have failed a course will have to redo the course they failed in their next grade. Summer school also creates job opportunities for teachers and educators, who want to earn more money in the summer or get experience teaching…

Educators debate extending high school to five years, due to increasing demands on students from employers and colleges to participate in extracurricular activities, community service, and maintain high grades. Personally, I do not believe that high school should be extended to five years. My reasoning for my position is it would increase drop out rate, the students would not enjoy being in high school for an extra year and want to start living as an adult, and I do all of this in the four year period. The first reason I believe high school should not be extended to five years is that it would increase drop out rate. As of right now, there is a good amount of kids that already drop out of high school before the four years are up.…
