To overcome barriers clients need to have a clear understanding of how their disability affects them and be able to express how dealing with the limitations and barriers make them feel.
• Cognition, behavior, insight, action and choice – Understanding that choice is an option. In order to make choices that are realistic and achievable an individual must gain insight and be educated on the vocational goal. Once a choice is made and research is completed individuals need to put a plan of action in place.
• Goal orientation – The key to success is to have realistic and achievable goals and be willing to adjust and adapt when necessary. As we move through life we are continually striving to meet our life goals.
• Values, beliefs, interests – In order for an individual to be successful they must work within the framework of their values, beliefs and interests.
