Americans find exotic pets highly intriguing and nearly 1000 million americans own a pets not native to our country. However bring new species to a area put another in danger. For example on some of the Hawaiian islands you are lucky to hear a bird chirp. Since invasive species continue wiping out animals it poses a big threat on there food chain.
Invasive species are a big problem and are being addressed. What would it be like if you were to go outside and find a Burmese Python in your yard. People brought Burmese Pythons to the U.S as pets and the pythons have continues to repopulate over and over again increasing their population. Asian carp were brought to the U.S to clean fish farms. Unfortunately floods released them into the wild and to this day Asian carp continue to dominate rivers; across Mississippi and Illinois and will one day arrive in the Great Lakes. These fish will grow up to 100 pound and eat 20-40 percent of their body weight each day.The Asian Carp eats so much that there isn't enough food left over for other fish. And finally we have Red foxes. Hunters during the 1800’s imported Red Foxes were in the for sport hunting. Unfortunately the foxes found small bird easy prey such as the penguin. In 2004 Red Foxes had killed 180 penguins and in 2005 small island penguin population which was once numbered at 8000 was not below 10. Red foxes are out of control and decreasing the amount of penguins. These species are becoming a big problem but there have been some solutions to help control these invasive animals. For the Burmese python we have used a few different methods to try to decrease the amount of pythons that consume Florida’s Everglades. Scientist have been hired to come set traps and track these beast. Scientist have killed many and have ask to report any sightings of pythons right away. Along with being tracked there has now been a ban on importing snakes so that the number of pythons won't increase. In Florida they hold monthly Burmese python Challenges. Hunters compete with one another to catch the most or the biggest pythons around. Although people are working on catching theses animals we still haven't been able to make a big dent in their
