An episode that would display this concept would be when there was a maternity ward intern who was a man and had to wear pink scrubs as the uniform. One day attendings named Dr. Yang and Dr. Grey had to go up there for a 911 call. Once they were done with their work they saw the nurse and began hysterically laughing. Because it is not a societal norm for males to wear pink scrubs or even be nurses, this image was amusing to the attendings. An episode that would best display this concept would be when the fifth year residents who at the time were Cristina Yang, Meredith Grey, Alex Karev, April Kepner, and Jackson Avery all took their board exams to become board certified surgeons. The outcome of this resulted in all of them passing except for April Kepner. The following day all of the new board certified attendings had a celebration leaving April out of it because she would still be a resident until she re took the exam.
