The human greed continues to be shun upon upon yet the foundations of all societies is based upon a man wanting something, and the said man working to achieve this. The greed turns into the vile term one thinks of through excessive desire- The innocent Gatsby that the reader learns of in the beginning is just a man who longs for Daisy, yet develops an excessive desire in which leads to his own downfall. American dream is set in a way that the rich can exploit it and the poor have to deal with it; a belief that if one works hard, one will receive just payment accord to the effort; yet the hardest workers such as the ones in Valley of Ashes are living in utter most poverty, meanwhile Gatsby lives a lavish life running an illegal bootlegging operation with Meyer Wolfshiem. The dream slowly induced to only entice the poor to flood in flocks, to later be slaves who work for mere scraps. There is a dream and the dreamer; one must have conceptualized the vision first for it to exist. Just like the men who created banks, and institutional structures into society- the same dream is used to only grow personal gain. Tom and Daisy carry a name that carries prowess in the art of being born powerful, these are people who can avoid the police, walk away unharmed from all of life’s trouble and get to reap the bounty of the backs of the sweaty middle and lower class. The dream can only exist for those already living it. “For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.”(Matthew 25:29 King James Ver.) From this quote we can explain how rich will be given more, opposed to the poor that is exploited, and that is the truth of life from two-thousand years ago till this
