An enduring issue is an issue that occurs and recurs over time. The enduring issue could be slightly different than the previous years of certain limitations and of the audience's response, behavior, and actions towards those issues. Some examples of enduring issues include power, scarcity, urbanization, impact of cultural diffusion, conflict, and innovation. In the three documents, the enduring issue is power. Power means having control over a variety of people. This applies to high placements such as kings to the placement of a parent. This is because power is often determined by wealth, intelligence, experience, age, and achievements.

The Middle Ages occurred after the fall of Rome, caused by constant invasions. This system included the church, kings, nobles, knights, merchants and peasants. The church was the highest power because people believed that the church had power over their lives and afterlives, making them cherish the church. Kings were provided with knights by nobles in exchange for land. Nobels provided these knights with weapons. These knights offered merchants protection in exchange for goods that were produced by peasants who would often be rewarded with goods. According to document 3,”..they would raise armies to protect their own lands and fight for their lords”. This statement illustrates that feudalism was successful in providing a safer environment for Western Europe by using armies to protect the land and people.
