Class Participation and Preparation
Class participation demonstrated by actively practicing and engaging in online and in-class learning. Participation involves a number of variables, including but not limited to: use of ASL in the classroom (instructor assessment of receptive and expressive skills will occur), willingness and engagement to participate actively in all activities in class and online, cooperative engagement during group and/or individual work, respecting peers and guests –promotion of a safe learning environment online and in the classroom (Klinger, 2017).
Homework
Homework assignments are graded for each unit of study will be accessed using Blackboard according to the degree of completion. They will include online Blogs and Course Dialogue, and in class preparation for content information and application.
Summative Assessments:
Midterm:
You will have a knowledge and a two-part skill assessment. The knowledge assessment will consist of an online comprehension exam to demonstrate your learning of Deaf culture, community and ASL grammatical features and “your ability to understand what is signed” (Smith, Lentz, & Mikos, 2008a). Your personal narrative of your most memorable childhood event and is to be presented during class. Your classmates will view your final project presentation and will document their questions and comments to demonstrate understanding. Your expressive dialogue is a 15-20 minute signed conversation recorded you will have with an assigned partner. You will cover topics discussed and learned over the semester, which is outlined and will be provided to you in advance (Smith, Lentz, & Mikos, 2008a).
