Before the war even started alliances between countries to protect each other were in place. The allied powers of Europe were combined. France, Great Britain, and Russia were all aligned with each as the allied powers. These countries weren’t necessarily friends, they just agreed to protect each other when a strong force came against. France and Britain aligned because of their militaries being very successful and powerful. France and Britain aligned with Russia for two reasons. First, Russia has a lot of people. They can support a lot of people for the war if that needs to happen. Secondly, Russia wants a warm water port going out of their country through the balkan territories. France and Great Britain now agree to align with Russia and get them that Balkan territory so they can now trade goods easier. This is why alliances are so powerful. One talk between countries and they now are together for whatever comes at them. This is also why it turned into a World War. The war was originally started with Russia and and the Ottoman Empire. Since the Ottoman empire was aligned with Germany and Austria-hungary they joined the war to fight with the Ottoman Empire. Then Russia called up its allies France and Britain to help Russia out in the war. Now all of a sudden we have every major country in Europe at war with each
