Postsecondary teachers instruct students in a wide range of academic and career-oriented subjects beyond the high school level. Such teachers include college and university professors, career and technical education instructors, and graduate teaching assistant. They need to go to meetings and they need to have good communications with the parents of the students and with the rest of the staff to let them know when they plan to be gone on a trip or on day off. They also need to let the office know when they are sick so they can find a replacement or they can call the person that is substituting.

The best aspects of this job is the way the students watch you and you watch them grow as they grow in knowledge. The drawback is that the job doesn’t pay a lot and you have to go to meetings and have to do parent/teacher conferences. For my job shadowing experience I went to Metro Charter Academy, which is a charter school in Romulus, Michigan. When I went to shadow a classmate/friend also went with me, his name is Martez Pierce. There we shadowed Bernadette Hurd, who was actually my 6th grade math teacher back in the day. Now she is a 6th grade English teacher and we observed her class and asked her multiple questions about the career in general. We also made loads of copies for her and helped her catch up on lesson plans.…

The System of Education since 100 B.C.: When males were only allowed to receive an education and females stayed home. It is amazing to see the progress throughout the years going from only males receiving an education to both females and males being able to attend school. When receiving an education it should not only be learning, but rather helping students receive the education needed to learn and enjoy.…

As a student with the goal of eventually going to medical school, one of the most important aspects of the preparation is job shadowing. Seeing medical professionals do their jobs may be too much for some people, but for people like me, it just makes us more excited for the future. I began shadowing doctors while I was in high school with a family practice physician in my home town of Grand Island. The city, which is the third largest in Nebraska, has a large and still growing Hispanic population. While I was shadowing for this doctor, I noticed that on any given day I would be there he needed a translator for anywhere from one-third to one-half of his patients.…

Trying on a career before deciding which to pursue should be done at earlier stage of life. This is particularly helpful for students who have recently joined for undergraduate degree. It is one of the best ways to figure what an individual is good at, if the job interests him/her or if they can actually perform well on it. Caroline Potter describes “trying on” a career as a ‘job shadowing’, where an individual follows or shadows a professional throughout a workday to understand what that particular job entails (Potter, n.d.). From a viewer’s perspective any job might look exciting and fun, until s/he has to work on it.…

After spending many years in the US, it was not until my junior year in college that I really saw the demand for doctors with qualified training. With four biomedical engineers, I created a project aiming to design an affordable retractor for emergency cesarean section in the developing countries. I was shocked to learn that many women in India lack the adequate access to healthcare and have cesarean procedure performed by midwives with limited experiences, as the country's social and economic factors are driving up the cost of care. After endeavoring to understand the complexity of the health care system in this project, I saw that providing a more affordable medical device can only solve one of many dimensions of the problem. Becoming a…

I had a very great educational experience with my job shadowing opportunity. My first time job shadowing was at Hawk’s Nest STEM Academy, a private school for elementary students. We job shadowed a woman who handled the technological activities in the classroom. What I liked most about this job is the troubleshooting as I was very familiar with Ipads that were used for the activities and was able to fix many of the common problems associated with the devices. The skills and training I needed for this job were patience, effective communication techniques, and to assist the children with technology problems.…

Workplace Ethnography I want to focus a different conception of the responsibility of investigations in the development of workplace or workers inquiry. I would suggest this as a more than literary modality, rather a forerunner of a kind of militant ethnography that is sorely needed. First of all reference is to Engels The Condition of the Working Class in England, then the huge chapter “The Working Day” in Marx’s Capital, volume one, right through to very late in Marx’s life when he penned 100 questions for a “Workers Inquiry” wanting to generalise the Factory Inspections of England to France, and beyond? Then we would trace this perhaps to the Bolsheviks, and Lenin of 1902, the so-called Factory Exposures, to Mao in Hunan writing reports…

Strolling through the mall in search of an optometrist office I visited two years ago, I ran into a doctor by the name of Courtney Thompson. She was wearing green scrubs and white tennis shoes along with a warm smile. She spoke with a pleasant tone as she politely asked, “How can I help you today?” It took me by surprise that attention was directed towards me. I inquisitively responded, “I am looking for an optometrist office to speak with a doctor in regards to shadowing.”…
