Elie Wiesel has just witnessed firsthand how a man can treat other men. He saw how they can be treated like animals. Son, brothers, and father turn against each other. He saw what people will do to survive. This essay will progress through the story showing how inhumane man can be to a man.
In the beginning, already there is character vs character with Moishe the Beadle. “He was poor and lived in utter penury”. The town did not believe him and even Elie who tried to believe but could not. Even if he was the nicest poor guy there.

Elie was face with helping his father go through the selection for Buchenwald. Which made Elie feel like his father could not survive or even pass the selection because of his old body. So Elie pushes his father to survive the selection so they can live on for another day. When Elie and his father are forced to march all the way to the sealed cattle train. Elie and his father gave each other mental and physical support all the way. When Elie got to the cattle trains he had to keep his father from getting taking off the train by keeping him moving. When passing through townspeople drop bread in their train and Elie saw men turn into animals for just one piece of bread. “Meir, my little Meir! Don’t you recognize me . . . You’re killing your father . . . I have bread . . . for you too . . . for you too . . .” That was the cries of someone's father dying by the hands of his son. People would throw bread on the train and watch the Jews fight over it. Finally the train stop at its final destination Buchenwald.
