At these sites, I observed hearing aid checks, maintainence, and replacements, as well as, hearing evaluations. I enjoyed seeing the interactions between the clinicians and clients, and how much care is put into explaining the test procedures and reassuring the client. I also think that the diagnostic audiometers are really cool; I am interested in learning how to opperate one.
So far, I have observed women who were comfortable and confident in the field. They are experienced and have the knowledge of how to adjust to each client to obtain accurate and sufficient information to make the most out of their time with them. They are observant, friendly, and patient; they are well-spoken and efficient since they are limited by the attention span of their clients. It has made me consider the Audiology pathway in graduate school. The only aspect of the job that disinterests me that I've seen so far is the fact that the client- base is largely geriatric; I prefer working with children. This aspect alone, however, does not dissuade me from consideration as I do not dislike geriatrics, and there are setting opportunities where I could work with children if I so choose.
