Essay On Call The Midwife

After viewing an episode of “Call the Midwife,” the midwives practiced community based nursing that focused on the care of the individual and families. In episode one, season one, the nurses managed to care for pregnant women in their homes and in a nursing clinic. The midwife Jenny, would sometime visit the home after the baby was born if complications occurred. For instance, Jenny visited homes to check on the pregnant women and she ran laboratory test to see if there was protein in the urine; which can indicate infections in bladder, problems with the kidneys, and preeclampsia. Jenny assessed a urine test on a women who already had lots of kids and felt as though she did not need any education. Jenny, noticed the edema in the woman legs and advised her to stay off of her feet. The women refused and had complications with her labor and the baby.

The midwife and the community health nurse works in a setting within a community that deals with an individual and their families whether it’s delivering babies or managing an illness. Health indicators are used to describe the health status within a community and serve to improve the community health. This can be the same for midwives, but the main focus is specifically based how it effects the mother and child. The community health nurse usually have a facility from which they work but is not necessarily limited to that institutional settings; whereas midwifes typically work in the homes but are not limited to just a home settings. Overall, whether you are a midwife or a community health nurse, it is important to promote, preserve, educate, and help patient maintain optimal
