Equality of opportunity differs many people are not born with that lifestyle; they have to work harder in school to get in an Ivy League university, they have to work overtime to become a manager. I was not born with a golden spoon in my mouth, I have always struggled to understand how one does not need to work hard to get where they are now in life. I believe if you struggled to get where you are, you start appreciating everything you worked hard for. I have seen student who have got their school paid for from by their parents and students who had to take out loans; many of those student who did not pay out of pocket tended to skip more of their classes, because they did not appreciate the value of a dollar. Women and monitories have always been struggling for equality. Women always fought to get same pay as men do in the workplace. That is where Equality of result comes into play. The idea of equality of result is that they get a head start in equality so they can stay equal with men and the majority. Men have always had a head start in society; women rights have always been a big issue and a fight. Astonishing that the U.S had to create the 19th amendment to grant women the right to the vote. However, they differ in a few ways; De Jure Segregation according to the American Government textbook means, programs or facility that are racially segregated by the law. For example the Jim Crow era in the south that separated black and whites by not letting them attend the same schools, bathrooms, restaurants’, and water fountains; however later on it was considered unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. De Facto Segregation only difference is that racial segregation is caused by pressured society or by private choice. The Ku Klux Klan is a major example of De Facto; it is a choice to be apart of the KKK. De Facto is still seen today with many races, especially African Americans’. African-Americans are starting to separate themselves from the whites because of recent events. Affirmative Action should be steps to overcome segregation like this. Minorities’ feel as if they are no equal to getting a job or going to an Ivy League university to the majority because of certain stereotypes. Even though the Civil Rights Act of 1964 banned job discrimination, it still seems as if minorities have to prove themselves to be just like or even better than the majority now a days. In conclusion, equality of opportunity, equality of condition, equality of result, de jure and de facto are all forms of bias segregation with race, color, religion, and sex.
