However, the school is only seven years old, and looks very new and modern. There is a large gate surrounding the school, with two separate areas for parents to drop off their kids. The classrooms are all connected inside with a hallway with computers. All of the third grade classes share the computers in their wing. They are also connected to the library and office via a series of hallways and doors.
The School’s Students and Teachers
The demographic profile of Orange Elementary School is vastly Hispanic or Latino at 51.30%, followed by whites at 33.90%, as shown in Table 3. Black or African American are third at 7.70%. Two or More Races is next at 3.30%, followed by Asians at 1.20%. American Indian and Alaskan Native are next at 1.10%, then Filipinos at 1.00%. Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander is last at only 0.50%. The demographic profile of the students very closely matches that of the district. All of this schools students are represented almost within 1% of that of the total number of students within the entire district.

Of those 32.0% are English Learners and 96.6% of students receive free/reduced price meals. Only 3 students are not native English or Spanish speakers. This school does not offer other special programs such as a Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program or Special Education Program. They do however offer a Peace Builders program where they all say the Peacebuilder pledge, they offer a S.A.F.E. (Students Achieving in Fun Environments) After School Program, where students receive homework time and assistance, an enrichment component such as arts or recreational activity, and a snack. In addition to those programs they also have a PBIS Program, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support. In the 2011 – 2012 school year there were 2 administrators and 36 teachers. The majority of teachers are white at 75%, followed by 19.4% Hispanic or Latino. 2.8% of their teachers are black or African America, and the other 2.8% were not reported. This is quite different from their students’ ethnic backgrounds. In 2008 – 2009, Orange Elementary school had 31 teachers, and 100% of the teachers were properly credentialed and teaching within the correct credential area.
