Rachel is perceptive, brilliant, intuitive, yet unassuming. She approaches each task as a novel opportunity to better the community as a whole. Organization of this school-wide event was vast and detailed, involving repeated meetings with administration and staff in regards to scheduling and roll-out details; along with negotiating a “pie the principal or assistant principal in the face” incentive to increase competition and fundraising. She created an elaborate and engaging iMovie “hook” for the students, introducing the student body to a silent peer most had never met, her friend Ainsley. The film, so moving, was the catalyst in inspiring student activism in the fundraising effort. Penny Wars was wildly successful in both raising money and a giving students a service-based mindset.
