The clocks in the piece appear to be melting. There also appears to be face that is melting as well. The elements of design that are included in the piece are repetition, texture, and balance. Repetition is shown because the clocks in the painting all appear to be melting. Texture is also shown because of the curves and edges of the mountains. There also appears to be texture with the ants and the lashes on the face. The piece also represents balance. Balance is shown because the left side of the painting includes a lot of detail in the watches, while the left side includes a lot of detail in the mountains. Garden of Earthly Delight was created in 1500-1505, during the Renaissance Era (“Garden”). However, unlike the time period it was created it represented some Surrealistic aspects. The painting consists of three separate images that are formed into one large image. The style is known as Triptych. Triptych is a style in which three separate pieces are put together in order to form a larger image (“MoMA”). The images seem to pertain to religious ideology. The principles of the design that were included in the piece were contrast, emphasis, and pattern. Contrast is presented in the piece because it goes from lighter shades (the left and middle pieces) to darker (on the right side). Emphasis is also an important aspect to the piece. Emphasis is presented because it centers on one ideal. The ideal could be the man with the women on the first picture, the fountains on the second picture, and the destruction on the third picture. I also think pattern is shown through out the image. The pattern could be the use of colors, the story it’s trying to tell, or even the amount of people presented in the images. The image also has a historical perspective. Some scholars believe the image represent an illusion to sin or paradise, fountain of life, and hell (“Visit”). I think the piece represents tiers of religion and what can happen without the religion. The first tier could represent a time of creation
