Abstract
This week’s discussion board will focus on three concepts that I feel are important to my learning from the chapter readings. I selected leadership, trust and management skills. As a manager these are all important to my management style and are relative to each other in any organization or position as a manger. Leadership A strong leader is one who guides and directs a group of employees. There are two types of leaders, transformational and transactional. The transactional leaders will guide and provide motivation to their employees with their direction of the desired goals. This is done by clarifying roles and task management (Satterlee, 2013). As a manager trust is something that is always part of interactions between individuals. In order for an organization to be successful a manager and employee should allow themselves to have an understanding of one another regarding trust. If an individual does think their co-workers have the ability to achieve certain tasks other employees could potentially take shortcuts and or do things to make the other employee look bad. This could go both ways and have a devastating effect on a team environment as well as the actual organization.
Management Skills
As we look at management skills there is a perception that leadership and management mean equally the same. As a manager these individuals will plan, organize and control certain processes. A Leader is one that has certain skills such as technical, human, and conceptual skills.
The technical skill is an area that an individual choose to become an expert in. “Technical Managers are not always expected to perform a task of expertise however; they should be able to lead the team in a specific area of that field” (Tarim, 2015). A human skill is where a manager has the ability to work with others around him and it is critical they can have interactions with co-workers through various types of communication methods.
