Often a mental illness is treated as the result of a “complex interaction between biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors”(The influence of Culture and Society on Mental Health). Cultural and social factors have the greatest correlation to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) a type of anxiety disorder. However, a family’s surroundings can generate an onset anxiety disorder depending on the experiences such as “severe marital discord, overcrowding, and social disadvantages”(The influence of Culture and Society on Mental Health). Furthermore, circumstances such as abuse and neglect put adolescents at risk to develop an anxiety disorder. People who suffer from anxiety disorder experience low self esteem and are unmotivated to accomplish goals and receive treatment. This is because they begin to believe in the stigmas. And as a result they think of themselves as untreatable, dangerous, and that they don 't deserve
