Sweet and Sour experience in a Discourse Community

I do not remember all the details but it was the day that changed my life. It was a routine day except for the fact that my science teacher talked about the science club named “phyX” and like the breeze that comes out of nowhere, a random desire to join the club came to me. My idea of the PhyX was a room full of geniuses doing some weird experiments with colorful chemicals, building some weird device but as I got into the room it was a place where ideas were discussed and information’s were shared. It had its own technical term, own way of functioning, communicating and problem solving. There was friendship and competition. Now as I know about Discourse community I can say that the PhyX was a perfect discourse community. And after the whole experience filled with ups and downs, grief and happiness, hard work and dedication, I can claim that I was successful in PhyX.
They say that having your name on the members list makes you a successful member. I disagree. Being a Successful members takes a lot of hard work and contribution towards

I found a place among the crowd of people. I can assure you that it is going to be hard to join any discourse community in the future. There will be moments of frustration, desperation, grief and along with it happiness, laughter and joy. This experience of mine will certainly help me in the future and I think it will probably help you too. So, whichever discourse community we might join, we have to give our best, work for common benefits and you will surely be successful. Remember, if you want a place somewhere, we must have the right attitude, and work hard towards it and the whole universe will push you towards that place either if it is in a discourse community, a school or a place in this world, the biggest discourse

FFA as a Discourse Community In many ways-specifically,communicating with people in this generation-living by the mantra “out with the old and in with the new” can heavily influence the way people respond to information. We live in a fast pace world where “the next big thing” has already passed you by by the time you take your next breath. With the ever changing trend in ways to communicate with people, discourse communities like Future Farmers of America (FFA) look for ways to communicate with their members effectively. Multicultural Club A lot of us have a discourse community that we feel like we belong in. Before reading John Swales essay, I thought a discourse community is a group of people that have shared goals and purposes. But after reading John Swales essay he have made me realize that there is more to a discourse community than only having common goals and purposes but also has its own mechanism that is used mostly for communication and to provide valuable information or a feedback, using a genre(s) especially for a particular jargon, and "A discourse community has a threshold level of members with a suitable degree of relevant content and discourse expertise" (471-473). That means that discourse community has members in different levels like the experts and the beginners.…

A discourse community is something that I have been thankful to be apart of through out my high school career, and to this day. The Washington High School Soccer team all shares a common goal of wanting to win a West Virginia State Championship, and continue to be successful through out life, sharing means of communication through social media and email. During my upper classman of high school I got chance to be apart of family that was all held together by something that meant more than just a ball. My soccer team was a magnificent group of friends, and we are still very close thanks to this discourse community. Through the seasons and off seasons the team has never fallen apart and we still remember what made out team so good the chemistry.…

In this case, the physics discourse community, like most science discourse communities, consists of people who are interested in theories, solving problems, doing research, and explaining how the world works by using graphical and mathematical presentations. Even though most of these interests relate to one another, the physics discourse community gives its members the opportunity to study different areas of physics that allow them to pursue the things that interest them the most. For instance, students at Sacramento State pursuing a physics major can study “atomic physics, nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, electricity and magnetism, optics, thermodynamics, gravitation, relativity, and mechanics” (“Sac State Physics Overview”). Depending on the members’ interests and area of study, they will began to pursue different activities and their interest will began to diverge.…

Commonly, people may be discouraged from joining a community due to toxicity of members, but in the discourse community of long-term care I have seen no evidence of attempts to silence anyone. The only attempt to silence this discourse community would be to stop a person from spreading dangerous misinformation regarding long-term care. After learning about the ways this discourse community communicates with themselves and others, I would like to discuss the specifics of their writings. Off-the-bat, the authors and publishers of this community are concise with what they write about. When discussing a problem, I’ve found that it is directly stated and the evidence to prove it is not ambiguous.…

I will analyze the ways in which social work is a discourse community and the influence my degree program at Washburn University will have on my future in social work. In my opinion I believe this community is interesting because of the amount of effort put forth by most of the members. Although, there are some members within this community that fall short of the glory as a means of not meeting the community’s standards. A member could not be kicked out of this community, but they could be in trouble if they are not abiding by the set of rules given by the communities higher ranking member i.e. our professors. Our professors are the members in this discourse community with more expertise. They have acquired certain degrees needed to be able to teach us and they are the professionals.…

Metadiscourse has always been something of a confusing term, often described as simply 'discourse about discourse' or 'talk about talk', definitions which spotlight its role of looking inward to allude to features of the text itself. But this is a very incomplete and disappointing view of a concept which has huge potential to include aspects of language which describe not only how people organize their opinions, but also how they connect with their readers or listeners. This confusion is commented by Swales (1990: 188) and by Nash (1992), who remarks that while the notion is easy to accept in principle, it is more difficult to set up its…
