The disparity between the access and use information technology in first world countries compared to developing countries is usually the scenario depicted by the media in terms of a digital divide, but this divide exists between urban and rural Australia and is even more significant between the urban population and many remote communities of the country, with 15% of rural Australians without access to the minimum connection speed for email and Internet use. Despite internet access doubling in the last 2 decades, this significant digital divide still remains (Ligge1, 2012) exacerbating the social disadvantage of these communities..
