Aquinas: Well, who is this philosopher you speak of?
Diana: The philosopher is William Lane Craig.
Aquinas: I have not heard of him.
Diana: Well, of course not! He is from the future.
Aquinas: Despite this man being from the future, I am still interested in what he has to say about meaning and purpose. As a philosopher, it is always important to hear other people’s arguments. So, please, tell me what this man has to say about meaning and purpose and what this has to with God.

I will first discuss the argument of causation which deals with cause and effect. All around us we see cause and effect in the world. I can only think of three ways in which this system began. One, the universe could have caused itself. Two, the universe is an infinite chain of causes and effects. Thirdly, there was a first cause that caused the existence of the universe. (McEvoy 1) It does not make sense for the universe to cause itself and it impossible for the universe to be an infinite chain of causes and effects because the universe is not infinite series because effects are caused by something. Thus, their must be a first cause because the universe must have come from something or someone. That something or someone is God. God is the first cause that caused us and everything around us. My second argument I would like to discuss is the argument of contingency. There are two types of beings in the world: contingent ones and necessary beings. Contingent beings are like you and me. We are capable of existing and not-existing because we are born and face death. This also includes animals and other things that face life and death. The second kind of being are necessary beings. These are beings that never come into existence and never leave existence. They are always there in the universe and there was never a time when they did not exist. Now, their must be a necessary being because something cannot come from nothing. There was never a time where God did not exist and he must exist because we could not come from no
