Everyone has a favorite place; that place can be in their imagination or a place where they can visit. It brings them comfort and peace. Their favorite place could release stress and sadness that has been bottled up inside them. My home is my favorite place; it indulges me with memories, life contemplation and comfort in times of need.

Right before sunset, my mother and I would head outside into our luxuriant garden that’s filled with sunflowers and roses. The smell of freshly baked cookies would fill into me as my mother places them onto the outdoor seating area. The grass would catch my attention as it shines from the moonlight after being recently sprinkled with water. These beautiful sights make me realize how complex life is and that each thing is important for the growth of another, so the stress that I’m feeling would make me grow as a person.

In the essay “Why Place Matters” Wilfred McClay and Ted McAllister argue that the loss of one's connection to a physical place results in the loss of individuality and one's public virtues. They fear that the importance of “place” seems to be fading and is now currently being replaced with a world that is deemed ‘placeless’ and thrives only on technology. They claim that place is an essential part for one to have a set of memories that build up a self identity. This self identity allows for a sense of responsibility that one has for their own community. They believe one cannot be apart of society without being a part of a place within that society.…
