Palestine and Israel have been almost constantly in the last 50 years been at war or tension between the two separate parties. This fighting began 1947 by the United Nations partitioning the land in Palestine to be given to Israeli groups to create a separate a state. This essay will ask, was this partition necessary, to for both Arab and Israeli to be accepting of each other and live peacefully next to each other. Some people claim that other methods would’ve been more effective in giving Jews safety and keeping the Arab happy.

Other claim the partition was necessary because without it Arabs would have never been happy with the constant migration of Jews. The reasons the partition was necessary was because it the groups would have never gotten on together, thus fighting between both groups was only a matter of time instead of all out war, it would be a civil war. Another reason people believe the partition was necessary was because the Jewish need to be given their own land as they had been wronged and the death of 5 milion Jews, they needed their own land to feel safe. To rule themselves so nothing like this genocide would ever happen again. This event has also some significance to New Zealanders because we as a nation in 1947 declared that the partition was the most effective route for these 2 groups of people. One of the people who was significantly affected was the prime minister of the time Peter Fraser who was greatly influenced by Jewish people in his life and he talks about to his diplomatic corps about the way they should for the partition. It was because he has “deep personal concerns for the Jewish People led him to support Partition, despite British object”. This means he is extremely bias towards the opinion means that he cared a lot about these people they were his friends and so he believed that they were a “small, pioneering and egalitarian society”. This had a significance to him because his friends got settled into their own safe piece of land. As the prime minister he has a huge impact as New Zealand as a whole decided to vote for him and thus decided to believe in his opinion so New Zealand was behind their opinion. Another significance to New Zealanders was the issue to do with New Zealanders changing opinion throughout the years on the situation in Israel. The partition changed through the years changed the opinion of our people as the political scene changed. The prime ministers throughout the years has declined quite a bit from the early romanticism of Israel, as government changed their was a serious change in the opinion. Throughout the time period of during Muldoon period of being prime minister the relationship deteriorated because New Zealand priorities changed
