I) Slightly delayed speech abilities
Children begin their speech and language development at birth, when an infant develops normally with no trace of lead contamination in their system they are able to recognize many of the sounds at the age of one. However, infants who are exposed to lead have issues when it comes to brain development in their Broca’s area which allows them to read and understand spoken language but shows difficulty in speaking and writing. The reason behind this symptom is because lead is toxic to the brain and body mainly attacking younglings according to MWPH.
II) Slight Anemia
Anemia could be a result of lead poisoning, with current history of the patient one can see that iron deficiency and low hemoglobin counts were presented …show more content…
Lead is able to leave the bones and re-enter the body through bodily fluids and soft tissue organs such as ligaments, skin, fat and tendons. The movement of lead from the bones to soft tissues is aggravated by low calcium levels (calcium deficiency). Implicating that when the patient stops consuming milk there is free calcium in the blood leading to intensified/higher symptoms.
1d) Bone structure
Due to the patient's environment with high levels of lead and history of previous anemic symptoms which is also a symptom of lead poisoning I would expect to see some lead in the bones as lead exposure from both environmental and occupational sources result in increased lead concentration within the bone matrix. I would also expect to see some growth arrest lines.
2a) Two possible sources
Old paint: Since the patient is currently in an environment where a house is being remodeled there could be some old paint which contains lead that has been absorbed by the patient's body. Even the smallest amounts of dust or chips of paint contaminated with lead can be a health
