In the book ¨Into the Wild¨ by Jon Krakauer is the story of a man named Chris McCandles who sought out adventure and took risks but left many with one question. Why? What person in their right mind, would just get up and leave everything and not tell anyone of their plans. Well in this book Krakauer gives his story, background information, and interviews from people who Chris knew and leaves you to come up with your own theory as to why he did it. Although many believed Chris to be a selfish, nutjob people should consider other factors behind his reasoning such as his own family issues and the literature that he read which influenced his philosophical beliefs.…

What Led Chris McCandless Into the Wild? Upon reading Into the Wild, many wonder what made him drop everything in his life and hitchhike and go to Alaska. Since reading this book, I have to the conclusion that he went into the wild as a cause of the rebellion of his youth and risk taking tendencies. He was fairly young when he left home, and he decided he didn’t want to do “the norm” and rebelled against his parents wishes that ultimately ended up killing him.…

This lead to a mutual lack of understanding between Chris and his parents, which no doubt was part of what drove Chris to the wild. There is a small part in every human that has a desire to “break out of the box” in some aspect of their life. Whether that box is of their own creation, or constructed by the expectations of others, it’s only natural that humans feel pressure to some extent in their lives. Over time, that pressure can become overwhelming, and, like in Chris’ case, can cause an individual to run.…

I have to agree with the author. Chris was a pilgrim looking for something different in his life. I feel like a lot of people fail to see the actual point on why Chris did what he did. It’s wrong to make false judgements about people without knowing the full story on why they did it. I agree with the author when he defends Chris saying that he wasn’t incompetent or crazy.…

For Example, Leo Tolstoy states “Life is a place of service, and in that service one has to suffer a great deal that is hard to bear, but more often to experience a great deal of joy.” (Leo). Leo is stating that in life you have to suffer a great deal, the suffering leads to a great deal of happiness in life. Chris viewed this as an inspiration, because he had suffered throughout his journey, even though he had a lot of obstacles he did not quit until he finally met his initial point, it is what made him happy. Leo also inspired Chris in many different ways, in which Chris showed in the movie Into the Wild.…

What is best for other people and the general public may not be what’s best for oneself, which is why Chris goes with his heart and his gut to make many of the decisions he made during his long journey. He escaped into the wild, like many philosophers and adventurers like Thoreau did before him. He does not let other people's opinions or ideals shape how he is going to live his life, and instead uses the ideals of Transcendentalism and self to live. Even though this way of living was created almost two hundred years ago, it can still be used to escape from the bonds of society and gain…

The statement that risk taking occurs when teens are unaware of the dangers involved is incorrect, because Chris McCandless knew the dangers of going up to Alaska and even tried to prepare himself to deal with these dangers. Teens are drawn to risk to prove a point to themselves that they can do it, or that they will learn from it in the end. However having responsibility causes a person to take less risky moves in…

Criminals would have us believe they are not responsible for the crimes they commit because they have no choice in becoming a criminal. They tell us they are criminals because of faulty DNA. Avoiding punishment is no doubt the reason many criminals have made this argument, but British naturalist and politician John Lubbock would never agree with them and to the contrary, he would hold them accountable.…
