Dancing Raisins

Raisins aren’t appealing, tasty snacks since they are shriveled and dry but it can change with a can of Sprite into scientific terms that we don’t use often. The demonstration I chose to do is called “Dancing Raisins.” It is a very simple demonstration that only requires a cup of clear carbonated soda and a box of raisins. The purpose of “Dancing Raisins” is to demonstrate how carbon dioxide bubbels cause a change in an object’s density and buoyancy. The materials that I used are a can of Sprite, most preferably 7-Up, a tall clear plastic cup, and several raisins, preferably fresh raisins. The clear carbonated soda is used as the carbon dioxide bubbles, the clear plastic cup is used to show what happens when the soda causes the raisins to dance, and the raisins are used to show buoyancy and how the …show more content…
The procedures that were used to demonstrate “Dancing Raisins” are quite simple. The first step is to pour the can of carbonated Sprite or 7-Up into the plastic cup. Then, the second step is to drop six or seven raisins into the plastic cup. Lastly, the final step is to watch what happens to the raisins. Dancing raisins consists of a few concepts that are carbon dioxide bubbles and buoyancy. The first concept is carbon dioxide that is created when the beverage is put into a can in high pressure of carbon dioxide gas. When you open the can, the carbon dioxide rushes out, a sound can be heard which is the carbon bubbles. The movement of the raisins when they bob up and down are caused by tiny bubbles of carbon dioxide gas that stick to the raisins rough surface, making an attraction. The bubbles increase the raisins volume but it does not affect the mass. The

This was because diffusion is the process where the molecules of both substances interact, with a constant kinetic energy. Therefore because the salt would increase the mass of the water, it would in result also increase the mass of the gummy bear because of the kinetic energy that interacts with both sets of molecules. In our planning stages we attempted to find a project idea which would vividly…

It was hypothesized that if we place an egg in a low sucrose solution, then it will enlarge or swell, making it a hypotonic solution. The results of this experiment prove this hypothesis was correct. According to the results, as time increased, the weight of the egg also increased. This can be concluded because the low sucrose solution caused the egg to intact the liquid causing it to expand.…

    Gobstoppers Observation

I absolutely loved observing the gobstoppers in water and how the colors created defined sections and eventually mixed in with the other colored gobstoppers. In this activity, the greatest breakthrough I had was our class discussion about accommodating the lesson for students who may have learning/behavior disabilities, vision or hearing impairments, or other forms of disabilities. A kindergarten physical science standard covers the topic of objects being sorted and described by their properties, such as color. Going into a kindergarten classroom this semester, I think the students would love observing and predicting what is going to happen with the colors and the gobstoppers themselves and would enjoy explaining what they see happening to…

When you put Mentos in Diet Coke, the surface of the Mento allows carbon dioxide bubbles to form, as this happens the Diet Coke “explodes” out of the bottle (Hiskey). This reaction can result in large geysers of Diet Coke. As the Mentos candy sinks, carbon dioxide bubbles form on the surface, more and more bubbles from until they eventually shoot out of the bottle (Science Buddies). This experiment is well known and many people have done it before, but most do not know the reactions that cause the geysers.…

Living through the four major decades characterized by the fight for civil rights, Hansberry lived in the same culturally hostile enviroment as her characters. In the 1930s, the entire country was experiencing the Great Depression.…

Throughout history, Irish culture has faced its fair share of tragedy, alienation and isolation from the rest of european culture. However, one facet of the culture has continued to thrive since it’s creation. Irish Step dancing, which first appeared in the 1700s, has been such a successful part of Irish culture, that it still remains at the pinnacle today, almost two hundred years after its creation. Irish culture has changed over time as the Irish survived through famine and an domineering and discriminatory government and eventually came out on the other side a stronger population. Throughout the trials and tribulations, Irish step dancing evolved from being an escape from a very difficult daily life into being the competitive sport it is…

The way this dance was, you had to enter the ballroom floor with a specific way of stepping to the beat using your heels, but also like ice skating in a way. Dancing wasn’t as easy as it is now, well for some people. Some other types of dances were Jigs and reels, which as I mentioned before enslaved people and lower class white people would use these methods of dancing, but so did the Virginians. When you would dance “Jigs” it required to only dance with one person and partner, for the “Reels” you could have as much as six people dancing. When it came to teaching and learning the dance, it wasn’t as easy as it seemed.…

A Raisin in the Sun tells the story of an African American family called the Younger’s who are living on the South Side of Chicago during the 1950’s. When designing the costumes for A Raisin in the Sun careful consideration must be taken in order to make sure that the costumes fit the time period. The choice of costumes is very important for the performance of the play because costumes can indicate a character’s sex, occupation, status, position, flamboyance/modesty and degree of independence. As a costume designer there are the following main objectives: to help set the tone and style of the production, to establish the locale and period in which the play takes place, to indicate the natures of the characters or groups in the…
