These numbers are growing do to the increased movements of immigrants wanting to come into the United States of America. People are typically unaware of the illegal immigrant problem because they only think of the southwest border as the problem, however the Canadian border is a problem as well. The United States of Border Patrol (USBP) has had a long and extensive history as our nation’s first line of defense against unauthorized entry. The USBP’s main mission is to detect and prevent the entry of terrorists, weapons of mass destruction and illegal aliens into the country, as well as to prohibit drug smugglers as well as other criminals along the border. The USBP patrols about 8,000 miles of American international borders with Mexico and a lost idea of Canada and coastal waters around Florida and Puerto Rico. For this case, I’m going to take a look at U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency as a whole, not individual aspect. Three major areas of duty, they partake in are border security, trade and travel. In border security, CBP secures America’s borders at and between ports of entry by stopping prohibited people and illegal goods. A top priority is to keep terrorists and their weapons from entering the U.S. while welcoming all legitimate travelers and business. CBP officers and agents enforce all applicable U.S. laws, including against illegal immigration, narcotics smuggling and illegal importation. CBP deploys highly trained law enforcement personnel who apprehend more than 1,000 individuals each day for suspected violations of U.S. laws. Next in the trade sector, CBP works to secure and facilitate imports arriving in the U.S., accommodating the increasing volume and complexities of international trade. CBP protects U.S. agricultural resources through active inspections at ports of entry. With the Container Security Initiative, Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism and the Automated Commercial Environment, CBP has a well-built base of affiliations and technology to safeguard the American public and promote legitimate international business.
