Our book states that the United States has traditionally been considered a melting pot of diverse cultures (Nursing Now). According to research conducted by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), more than one-third of the U.S. population is comprised of people from ethnic and racial minority groups, and by 2043, minority groups will become the majority (AACN,2016). Throughout my research for my group project, I learned so much about the importance of being culturally aware as a medical professional. I was surprised to learn that countless minorities have reported lower levels of satisfaction when receiving health care, and thought they would receive better care if they were of a different race or ethnicity. Studies have shown that cultural barriers are a massive reason individuals chose not to seek medical help from health care professionals. In this course, and throughout nursing school we were taught about the significance of ethics and cultural diversity and, it makes me very upset the see that people feel so mistreated be medical
