Creative Writing: Red Chief

Yesterday was a wonderful day. You wanna know why? It was because that loud mouth Red Chief was gone. Then out of the gleaming blue I hear “Catch me if you can stupid pig”. Trust me the pig was running as fast as a cheetah. I said,”Who is this out here playing with me poor pig”? To my surprise it was Red Chief, and he was being as wild as he can be. “Well hey there Mrs. Diale”? Red Chief said. Don’t hey me, leave my pig alone now you bad child. “But I’ve missed you, it felt like we’ve been away from each other for centuries”, said Red Chief. “Well you won’t have to worry about me anymore, because I’m moving far far away”! Exclaimed Red Chief. That’s when I smiled as big as I can and let him continue to play with the pig.

The earth beneath their feet had long since morphed into oozing, black mud that sucked at their feet and legs. The pounding of artillery shells, the booming of massive guns, the sharp crack of rifles, and the smell of gunpowder were without pause. Blood-splattered bodies were sprawled on the trenches. The screams of agony and the earth-shattering crashes of shells would be enough to drive even the most stalwart to insanity.…

There was low-toned talk among the troops. The officers were impatient and snappy, their countenances clouded with the tales of misfortune. The troops, sifting through the forest, were sullen. In the youth's company once a man's laugh rang out. A dozen soldiers turned their faces quickly toward him and frowned with vague displeasure.…

A series of small waves pressed the sail boat against the alge dock as his cold and cracked hands desperately yanked on the rope in an effort to raise the sails. Dark clouds had moved in the night before and had stayed overnight providing a refreshing sprinkle of rain every now and then. He looked out over the vast plain of unsettled water and saw one individual white cap rise up among the rest only to be pushed back down. Due to the lack of sunlight the frigid water appeared black and lifeless but he knew that below it was a complex community of different species. He then bent over the side of the boat and reached for its securing ropes.…

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK 1942 Steve sat quietly, hands tucked in his lap in the poorly-lit theater. For about 20 minutes, the white sheet had broadcasted war propaganda: little boys pulling dirty red wagons missing wheels, collecting scraps of metal for the war effort, soldiers hiding in ditches, clutching helmets to their heads and rifles to their chests, the sound of bombs exploding and tanks firing seemingly unnecessarily loud in Steve’s ears. A booming voice described the terrors soldiers faced in the battlefield, and it was so graphic and in so much detail that Steve felt he was there to fight with them. He almost forgot what he went there to see in the first place. Steve was mesmerized by the scene, like the way unwanted tears swell up in…

The theater buzzes with energy and excitement, magic flowing throughout the room for the first time in five years as Eddie Redmayne appears on the silver screen. The crowd roars to life as four men from Baltimore take the stage, a sight I have waited to see so long that it nearly brings me to tears. The world of the Norse Gods springs to life as I join the teenage demigod Magnus Chase on another death-defying adventure. A sea of blue and gold overtakes Rider Stadium on a beautiful June day, and I celebrate with the people who I have seen everyday for the past four years for a final time. I sigh, looking at my dorm, which looks as though a history bomb has exploded inside of it, but at least it is not my childhood bedroom.…
