Introduction
When we speak about a concept, we are talking about an idea of what something is or how it works. Something that is conceived in the mind; a thought or a notion (Merriam-webster.com). Concept analysis examines our concepts as we use them in everyday languages and situations. A concept may be a word, two words or a phrase (McEwen, 2014).
Concept analysis should be conducted when concepts require clarification or further development to define them for a nurse scholar’s purposes, whether that is research, theory development, or practice (McEwen, 2014).

She was therefore perceived as the “angel of mercy.” She was considered as “the lady with the lamp” who helped wounded soldiers during the war (nursingtheory.org).
The reason I chose the topic of spirituality is because I believe that everyone has a power within them to help them to heal. There is a power that lies within us that the doctors are still baffled about, and that is the power of prayer and the power of God that is within us that heals us spiritually and physically. That spiritual power that lies within us gives us the power that is necessary to survive and exist, which causes us to be more comfortably situated in life and health. We recognize that people are holistic beings with physical, mental, spiritual and emotional feelings.
Definition
Spirituality is the essence of a being that permeates all life (Taylor, 2002). It is the life force that gives meaning to how one understands, views and lives life. It involves relationships with a higher being, with self, and with the world around the individual. Spirituality implies living with moral standards.
“The spirit of a human is his essence, that part of him or her that is not visible. The part that does not die but is immortal. Webster defines spirit as “a life giving force” and as the “active presence of God in human life.”
The concept of spirituality is found in all cultures and societies. These factors can influence how patients and health care professionals perceive health and illness and how they interact with one another. To be honest, when it comes to patient care, I don’t think about their spirituality unless there is a Chaplain involved. Shame on me!
This tells me that when it comes to spirituality that it’s forgotten or not considered important when it comes to patient care. Research has also shown that when a patient’s spiritual needs are met they experience a greater quality of life. The primary way we would go about introducing our change is by making spiritual education as a part of orientation at work. This would be keeping the holistic approach to patient
